In the United States, lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer-related fatalities, accounting for 11.7% of all cancer cases. It is alarming that approximately 234,580 Americans are projected to receive a lung cancer diagnosis in 2024 alone, resulting in the loss of 125,070 lives. (Source: Cancer Facts & Figures, American Cancer Society 2024)

At UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, our Section Chief of General Thoracic Surgery, Dr. David M. Jablons, MD, leads the Thoracic Surgery & Oncology Tumor Board. This program holds accreditation from the ACCME and aims to educate practicing physicians and nurses specializing in thoracic oncology, pulmonology, radiation oncology, pathology, and surgery. Its objective is to promote evidence-based best practices for the management of patients with lung malignancies. By following these guidelines, our goal is to extend disease-free progression, enhance overall survival rates, and improve the quality of life for our patients.

This program is specifically designed for practicing physicians and nurses at UCSF who specialize in thoracic oncology, pulmonology, radiation oncology, pathology, and surgery.
